What’s New in Prestashop 4 – Front Office

Prestashop version 4 Alpha is finally released to public  (but it’s not recommended for production yet), so if you’re curious what features available in this Alpha version, specifically in the front office here’s the summary :

Installation

Installation process is almot similiar to the previous version but there’s additional requirement for MCrypt (for encrypting purposes) as this will replace  Blowfish.

As for the database engine, now we can choose either to use InnoDB or MyISAM.

Which engine you’re going to use is likely depend on your needs. As the reference, for the comparation between InnoDB and MyISAM, you can read the article here and here. Those link can you help you decide which engine you are going to use.

At the final step of installation, you can choose the Main Activity” of your store. This will help the main focus of the store and probably related with SEO (Search Engine Optimization).


Store Locator

If your store has physical location, this feature will help customers locate your store, especially if you have many outlets/branches.

This feature utilizing Google Map API v3.

Product Comparation

This features is finally available in Prestashop for free : The feature to compare products side by side. Can be very helpful for customers to compare products.

One page checkout

This feature will simplified the checkout process. In the previous version, customers must pass the 5 steps prior to checkout but now they can be happier to have only one page checkout.

Upload file in contact form

There’s additional upload file feature in the contact form.

Login Form

A nice and fresh login form to the back office is now available:

As you can see, Prestashop 4 has so many exiting features that we can use to optimize our store. But since it’s not recommended yet for production, we have to patience at the moment.
